To Coach or not to Coach?

As mentioned in my previous post, several people have recently asked me to coach them/offer training plans. The reason why I (at least for now) am not going to go down the coaching route is A) I'm not certified, B) Half the time I have no idea what I'm talking about, and C) I know how needy I am as an athlete and can't handle a dozen other needy athletes in my life as I'm stressing about preparing for my dissertation and defense (and admit it, when it comes to training and the athlete/coach relationship, we're ALL needy).

But...I've decided to make one exception: my roommate.  Yesterday, while out for a walk, she mentioned to me she was considering doing an upcoming 6 mile race but had no idea how to train for it. As expected, I sprung into action.  First up: a 6 mile walk together. Then we rendez-vous'd in the park for some push ups, wheelbarrows, lunges, and step-ups. By the end of it, Tara was getting a little too overexcited with this whole fitness thing:

"Ooh look a basketball court! We should play basketball!"
"Tara, we don't know how to play basketball"
"Sure we do! We can play pig!"
"I think it's called horse."
"Oh."
