Triathlon is me

It's that time of year when everyone starts getting sentimental...

This morning I went for my first run since IMFL. I laced up my Brooks Pure Connect and left the Garmin at home. As I was enjoying some quiet pre-dawn time I began to think about all the things I have to be thankful for in life.  My life certainly didn't follow the "traditional" path. If you ask my family, they have no idea how I turned out to be a triathlete.  According to them I was active, but not athletic as a kid.  But if you start digging through the family album, you find evidence that my love of the swim bike run was established at a very young age:

Regardless of whether I was a born a triathlete or just became one, I am so thankful that I am one.  It's amazing what you learn about yourself in this sport.  You learn how to push yourself beyond all your limitations.  You learn how to not only deal with pain but to embrace it. You learn your true nature when you're broken down by mental, emotional and physical exhaustion. Triathlon energizes me. Triathlon calms me. Triathlon makes me laugh, cry, and sing. Because whether I like it or not, triathlon is me.

I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving and take a few moments to reflect on all your blessings in life!
