Talk about a confidence boost! Thanks for the shout-out, Vincent! And for all of you kick-butt athletes out there, here's the music video to give you a confidence boost for your upcoming races!
For those of you who missed it on twitter, Wednesday I got hit with a lovely case of puke-your-brains-out-all-day-itis. I spent a good four house curled up on the bathroom floor, then another four hours curled up in bed, then another four hours watching HGTV because it took too much effort to lift the remote to change the channel. All punctuated by hourly bouts of dry-heaving till I'm crying and shaking. My roommate brought me ginger ale and chips late in the afternoon and after failing to keep most of it down I was able to keep some fluid and food in by bed. I felt weak but much better the following morning, and am finally feeling back to normal (if I ever do feel truly "normal"). I'm still insanely tired, but I'm eating and drinking. Thankfully I get to housesit at a beautiful location this week (taking care of chickens and four cats!) so I get to recuperate right here:
This morning I kayaked out to the Mokes (islands off of Kailua) to see shearwater nestlings. It's box jellyfish time (they come three days a month 10 days after the full moon) so I knew I took a risk doing any water-related activities. Historically Kailua doesn't get the jellyfish as bad as the rest of Honolulu, so I factored that into my decision. I'm proud to say the only wounds I have are from when I mis-judged the depth of the water and dove my ribs right into the rocks. Brilliant.
And even bigger news--I lost my first big toenail! I knew it was on its way off a few weeks ago (still have no idea what I did to lose it) but let it do its thing. But when it started flapping during my swims I knew it was time to take care of it. Here it is flapping free:
And here it is after I cut the free-hanging part. My exposed skin should have plenty of time to toughen up before IMFL.
Countdown to IMFL...15 days to go!
