You've heard the pros talk about it, and you've heard various bloggers talk about it. Steve in a Speedo beat me to the punch (gotta love the delay in mail when you live in Hawaii!) but hopefully I'm the first one to bring you the scoop on GU's new product: GU Brew Electrolyte Tabs:
I must admit, even with my GU sponsorship I've been secretly (shh!) using NUUN during my trail runs. It gives me a boost of electrolytes without the calories and helps flavor my water. You can use it on top of gels without doubling up on calories. It's also great to drink right before bed before an epic workout as the blend of electrolytes is perfect for hydration. Camelback also makes electrolyte tabs, although I've never tried them.
But now that I've read about the GU Brew Electrolyte Tabs, I am definitely switching. Hopefully I can convince you to do the same (or at least give 'em a try!)
I put together this chart based on information GU sent me that compares the different brands:
I don't know about you, but I try to limit as much artificial things as possible in my diet. And the best part? The suggested retail price is $6.50, the same as NUUN and $3.50 less than Camelback! They also come in three delicious flavors: orange, lemon-lime, and GU's new peach tea flavor. Now I know you're chomping at the bit to go out and buy these, but patient grasshopper. They're not available yet. But rest assured I will let you guys know the moment they release these magical tabs to the masses!

Any idea what they're using for the sweetener? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe Gu Brews that I have are really high in calories...maybe I have a different kind?
ReplyDeleteGU Brew is my drink of choice, but honestly I can't stand the taste of NUUN. Hopefully these taste way better, because I love the concept.
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited about the new Gu Brew. My stomach is a disaster with the original, which is typical for me with regular sports drinks. I'm a huge Nuun devotee, but like the more natural approach here. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletehmm might have to try thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteInteresting!
ReplyDeleteI use Ultima for electrolytes, but I can see how the GU would be convenient. Would like to know the source of its sweetner.
Hammer also makes a similiar product. Good stuff.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely be looking for them once they are out. I use nuun often and if I can get rid of the artificial junk that would be great
ReplyDeleteI believe the sweetener is Stevia, a natural herbal sweetener.
ReplyDeleteLisa you probably have the Gu Brew powder which has carbs. The tablets are meant for quick hydration. The only thing is if you are on a longer bike ride you would need gels or chomps to replace lost carbs.
