Yesterday I was thinking.
And we all know that Frayed Laces gets into trouble when she thinks, but bear with me...
I thought "you know, FL, it really isn't fair that you get all the benefits from your Brooks partnership. After all, part of the reason why you got hooked up with the company was because of your blog and your readers"
So, I decided to shoot an email to my BFF at Brooks to ask if they were interested in some sort of giveaway. So, I am pleased to announce.......
The Brooks Run Happy Giveaway!

Here's the rules: you need to answer the following question in the comments of this post:
If you were Brooks CEO for a day, what would be the top three things you would change in your running shoes?
So, now is the point in which you wonder what the prize is. First place prize is $150 gift certificate for Brooks apparel or footwear. Runner up is $100 gift certificate. Winners will be randomly selected (but you must answer the question in full to be included in the random selection), but I would like to throw an additional prize out there. I will personally send a FrayedLaces surprise grab bag to the answer that makes me laugh the most. After all, Brooks is all about spreading the happiness and love!
You may only submit one answer to be eligible for the Brooks prize, but you may submit as many answers as you'd like for the FrayedLaces special.
If you're stuck, here are some ideas to help get the juices flowing:
- I'd like a pair of shoes that were so minimal I couldn't feel them--like someone painted them on.
- I'd like shoes that massaged my feet as I ran
- I'd like shoes that didn't look fat when I looked down at them
- I'd like shoes that never came untied
- I'd like shoes that come with a side of man eye-candy to motivate me during the last hard miles
The deadline for the contest is Friday, Sept. 25 at 6pm Hawaii time. Spread the word to your friends!
In the meantime....Ever wonder what pair of Brooks shoes would be best for you? Use this comparison chart to see what Brooks shoe would be best for you based on what you currently run in. (Click on them for the big image) Run Strong, and Run Happy!

Well that IS a challenge isn't it? Well assuming I am truly CEO for ONLY a day, then I would do things to benefit the consumer.
ReplyDelete1. Make them more affordable, (slash 30% why not!)
2. Make sure the wide versions of their shoes are not only wide enough, but widely available in lots of sizes. (since that is what I am always looking for)
3. More pink. We all love pink shoes.
I am partial to lighter colored sneakers so the first thing I would do is to try to figure out a way to make a sneaker that doesn't look dirty after the first run. Second, I would try to come up with a shoe that is light but also gives the right about of support and cushion. Thrid, I would make a shoe the projected a holographic image of a big bowl of ice cream that I never catch to make me run faster.
ReplyDeleteI`d love a pair of shoes with a pocket in the sole. Also, I`d love to have shoes that would massage my feet when I walked (not run though, that would get kind of irritating). Finally, I would love to have a plethora of colored laces to choose from!
ReplyDeleteI'd like a pair of shoes that will make me fast :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd I think shoe companies should announce when they plan on changing a shoe. So we can stock up on the old ones.
I would want a paid of Brooks that corrected the terrible pronation on my left ankle, did not cost too much, and made me BQ. Please tell me that's all possible!!
ReplyDeleteI would like a shoe that has enough support for my very high arches that a) don't cause me to supinate and b) feel soft.
ReplyDeleteI would like a more breathable shoe for our hot southern summers!
1. built in distance/speed monitor!
ReplyDelete2. more color options: custom, please
3. longer lasting! probably wouldn't be so good for the company's bottom line, but it would be great to have a pair last longer than the requisite 300-500 miles.
I'd like:
ReplyDelete1. a little ice pack insert for that dang p.f.
2. little cushions at the toe because i think would help people keep their toenails
3. lights for when it gets dark mid-run and you can't tell if there's uneven terrain in front of you
wow, great contest, thank you to Brooks!
ReplyDelete1. good running shoes are expensive, make them last longer
2. make some with "memory foam" inserts that conform to the sole of your foot, and give better support
3. distance tracker, like an odometer, built in somehow...
Brooks, they are great. Here is what I would change.
ReplyDelete1. I would add something to the sneakers to let you know when it is truly time to get a new pair.
2. I would incorporate a system where you buy a pair of new Brooks at full price and get your next 2 pairs half off. I think both the consumer and brooks would benefit.
3. I would make a shoe that talks to you, for example it may say "pick up the pace," "you can do this," "suck it up", "the rain won't kill you" stuff like that.
1) Better colors
ReplyDelete2) I'll agree to man candy to escort me, I'm single and it sure would make me feel safer running.
3) Shoes that automatically became the perfect tightness. I either tie them too tight or too loose :/ Fun giveaway now let me win ;)
1. more color selections on the newer models -- i'm tired of my blue and white defyances! i'm jealous of the adrenaline choices :) coral... yellow... red... blue is laaame and doesn't seem to be making me faster (as red definitely would).
ReplyDelete2. frequent buyer program-- i stock up on pairs 3 or 4 at a time... maybe do like a "fruit of the month club" but with the same(?) shoes every 3(?) months... as you can tell, i've really planned this out.
3. maybe a different color underlayer beneath the tread (I think I'm unnecessarily obsessed with colors this morning) to show wear pattern more easily. I always check it to see if my injury-prone foot is behaving, but it's always hard to tell. I'd like to not have to hold the shoe up to the light and squint as if i'm looking at a rare diamond to see if i'm excessively pronating.
thanks, frayed!
I just bought a pair of Brooks Cascadia 4s and I love them! Can't wait to hit the trails again this weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have a pair of shoes that would yell at me when I slowed down - maybe they can fit a mini-army-trainer into the shoes somehow?
Also, a pair of shoes that magically turned lights green whenever I approached would be amazing - no more jogging in place, smiling awkwardly at whoever happens to be waiting to cross.
Maybe there's a way to have the midsole/treads be replacable, so that we didn't have to buy entire new shoes each time ours wear out.
Thanks for the contest, FL and Brooks!
Three things:
ReplyDelete1. Start doing research on whether stability and cushining are REALLY helping runners. To my knowledge, there is not such research out there.
2. Start developing more minimalist running shoes.
3. Start a reccycling running shoes program - bring your old shoes in, and get X% off when buying a new pair
1 - wider toe box (my biggest complaint of almost all shoes)
ReplyDelete2 - more colors. cute colors!!
3 - better insert - always have to swap those out. it would be nice if the stock ones were better.
:-)
Great giveaway, Frayed! Since I never win anything, (whaaa) here goes:
ReplyDeleteCEO for the day-
1)My Kayanos carry a vision-Kayano Killers! So when I lace 'em up I see something-run faster-jump higher,etc-therefore each model needs to carry a vision
2) Lacing systems explained-and ours is the most advanced for your comfort and PR performance!
3) Lifespan- adding a phase of the life of the shoe by selling an insole to use after a certain # of miles- (the profits soar-I'm a millionaire)
What a great giveaway!
ReplyDelete1. I'd make a pair of shoes with a built in GPS
2. I'd make a pair of Operation Beautiful shoes that told you how awesome you are all the time (yes, speaking shoes)
3. And lastly, I'd make a pair of shoes that somehow didn't look like running shoes, they looked like cute on-the-town shoes. So you'd never have to take them off!
Hi! I've been lurking for a while now, but who can resist a giveaway? If I were CEO for a day, I think I'd make shoes that made me faster! I would also like to make shoes that had cushioning and support but looked sleek instead of chunky. I'd also make shoes and clothes in more colors and sizes.
ReplyDeleteI just want to let you know that I think your blog is great and I'm very impressed that you manage to get in all the training that you do in addition to work/school!
ooo ooo! pick me!
ReplyDeleteif i were brooks ceo for a day, i would:
1) invent running shoes that your could fold up, roll up, or generally tuck away so you could carry them around in your purse.
2)had a button so i could release little jets of fire whenever i wanted to initimate other people at races.
3) said encouraging things to me as i ran... like "come on, caitlin! keep it up! whoop, whoop!"
If I were CEO of brooks for the day, I would:
ReplyDelete1.) Name a shoe after myself because I am awesome!
2.) Design a shoe with a small pocket on the side for my gels and car key. Those little pockets in my running shorts just don't cut it.
3.) Colorful laces...need I say more? What is up with all of the white?
A mileage tracker or GPS to track exactly how many miles you've put on "that" pair of shoes.
ReplyDeleteLaces that tie tight, don't come untied while running, yet are a snap to untie when you're done.
Super Glow in the Dark!
I'd make a pair of transformer shoes that go from track, to road, to trail shoes in 5 seconds!
ReplyDeleteI think a new pair of "social" running shoes should be developed - similar to the Reef flip flops, that have a bottle opener in the sole of the shoe...just in case you happen to stumble into a bar during/after a run.
ReplyDeleteooh how fun! i would...
ReplyDelete1) make road shoes more colorful! it's not fair that trail runners get all the funky colored shoes.
2) create an incentive program like sub shops have - buy 4 pairs of shoes and get the 5th pair free.
3) develop stink-free technology!
i am also liking carlee's suggestion for lights and d10's suggestion for a time-to-replace-notification!
Well, I would
ReplyDelete1)Have a program that rewards uber Brooks customers - buy 10 brooks shoes get the 11th free
2)Custom Color your shoe - like choose your colors online and have it shipped to you
3)Try to add some sort of de-stinkifier into the shoes - the insides of my shoes always start to smell after a while
Hmmmm....As Brooks CEO for the day I would:
ReplyDelete-Make shoes that adjusted their size as your foot swelled on long runs so they always fit perfectly.
-Have laces that don't come untied or loosen while you run.
-Have a wider variety of colors.
I'd like a sock/shoe combo so I don't have to mess with socks. That leads into the next one, shoes that never get smelly, or that are self cleaning. And lastly, a shoe that makes my hips jiggle less. There is nothing more demoralizing than watching your shadow and being mesmorized by how much your hips move. :)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm...
ReplyDelete1. I want shoes that would give me a pedicure, instead of ruining any hope of keeping toenail polish on my toes.
2. I would want shoes that don't make my narrow size 10 feet look like big ole canoes.
3. gps tracker built in!
I would:
ReplyDelete1) slash prices so everyone could afford great running shoes
2) give them super comfortable, but extra light, insoles so my feet don't hurt when I'm done
3) create some sort of running shoe recycling program to turn old shoes into new shoes - hopefully without the "old running shoe stank"
The three things I would do is 1) lower the price so I would be able to a pair more often, 2) Make the shoes feel like they are hugging your feet not rubbing them, and 3) give them a scent that makes dogs avoid you and not run out to take a bite out of you in the middle of your tempo run.
ReplyDelete1) Make a more minimal running shoe
ReplyDelete2) Make the women's size slightly larger so us big feet girls don't have to wear men's shoes
3) Make them cheaper!
1. Shoes with the ability to store all my crap with out weighing me down. I.E. My keys, money, pepper spray, gels, post-run liquor, etc.
ReplyDelete2. equipped with speakers so i can enjoy aurround sound while running
3. A built in odometer. They can tell me how many miles are on them so I know when exactly to buy new ones.
What an awesome giveaway!
ReplyDelete1. I'd like shoes that can talk to me - sometimes nice "You're doing awesome!" and sometimes sassy "Speed up lardass."
2. I'd like shoes that would still feel brand new after about 300 miles.
3. I also wouldn't mind having shoes that flames shoot out the back. Not so much to make me faster, but to make me look faster. :)
Wow. Three things to change about shoes. I'd have to say:
ReplyDelete1) Self-motivating. My shoes would have to have an alarm that when it went off, they would put themselves on my feet and push me out the door. Or maybe they'd wear out faster if you DON'T wear them.
2) Extra springiness as the miles wear on. Always feel so good at the beginning of a long run, and plodding at the end.
3) And they'd have to look so cool that I'd be ashamed NOT to run in them.
I can't turn down a competition! If I could make my dream shoe...
ReplyDelete1. I'd like shoes that have a GPS in them so that I don't get so lost all of the time.
2. I'd love shoes that leave my feet smelling better than they started.
3. Most importantly, I'd love some shoes that minimize my cankles!!!
1. Make sure specific models are available longer so when I find a pair I like they will still be available in my size next time I need shoes.
ReplyDelete2. Tone down the boldness in colors, I don't need shoes that make a statement, just that keep me running injury free.
3. Shoes that will tell you when it is time to replace them, other than just making your hips, legs, ankles, etc hurt :)
Pick me! I love Brooks gear! :D If I was CEO for a day I would:
ReplyDelete1. Change the colors and make more pink, silver and teal for the womens shoes and less blue! Also more red because I like to be ON FIRE when running!
2. Cut prices to make them more affordable and easily accessible to all! Pain free running should be accessible to everyone.
3. I'd have them be automated so you just strap them on and they keep your pace for the distance you program them for. This of course makes them easy to PR in and take all the effort out of training. They also would automatically make your body able to handle those paces that you've always wanted to be able to achieve! (All of this while being offered for less? It will happen, right? right?)
OMG such a great giveaway!
ReplyDeletehmmm this is a good question.
I would change....
1) Women's shoe colors. I feel like men get all the cool colors like blue, yellow, orange, and red. Girls shoes are like, pastel, or white, or other "light" colors. I want bright blue shoes too!
2)Make shoes specifically designed for under pronators. I feel like there's no shoe that's targeted for us high archers
3)Esp regarding Brooks shoes: Make them more flexible, less rigid and "supportive" feeling
I'd want...
ReplyDelete1) shoes that are affordable on a part-time employment budget
2) shoes that come with an oxygen tank so that I can run until my legs tire, not my lungs
3) shoes that can transition between barefoot running and regular so I can figure out which style I prefer with one pair!
HOW FUN!!!
ReplyDeleteIf I were Borrks CEO for a day I would.
1. Offer a free technical shirt with every shoe purchase. Runners love GEAR! This promotion, even if it was once a year would really attract Runners to the clothing side of Brooks.
2. Promote the races that offer Brooks gear. It would be great to be able to search for local races on the Brooks website. I ran in the Snoqualmie Railroad Days 10K because I knew I would get a Brooks shirt.
3. Fit the people. Some are TALL, some are SMALL, some or thin, some are rotund, some are young, some are old...running is amazing because anyone can do it. Use the website to fit each individual runner. Not sure that a "Rotund" category will fly very well, but focussing on more specific needs would be GREAT..
I LOVE this giveaway! I have been so tempted to splurge on one of those "Run Happy" shirts - just love those!
ReplyDeleteAnd I do so love my Glycerins, but if I were CEO for a day I would:
1. Somehow program them to behave like my dog: walk themselves over to the front door and proceed to whimper and scratch until I take them outside for a run!
2. Give them an "instant dry" feature for after a rain-soaked run.
3. A self-cleaning function, particularly for those days when I accidentally step in what someone's dog has left behind...
Also, if I were CEO for a day, I would make sure to hire myself to work at Brooks in some other capacity after my day as CEO was over! :)
What a sweet giveaway!!!
ReplyDelete1. More color varieties.
2. A built in odometer (how sweet would that be?!?)
3. Give them the ability to run without me when I want to take an unscheduled rest day (but I still get the cardio benefits of said run.)
1. interchangeable laces in different colors
ReplyDelete2. washable without ruining the shoe
3. side pocket on the shoe for a key
A giveaway! WOOHOO!
ReplyDeleteAlrighty, I'd like to see:
A) more colours! There's too much white/blue/green
B) Brooks control shoes that DON'T feel like lead weights (I need a lot of support but their motion control shoes are just too big and clunky) :(
C) built-in lube dispenser... hey, why not?
Thanks for the giveaway. I love me some Brooks and I am due for a new pair soon.
ReplyDeleteI would like a pair of Brooks with a Star Trek like virtual reality function. At the push of a button - you could beam yourself into another world. I want to be Kara Goucher at Boston or Krissie Wellington at Kona.
Shoes that could make you into a Kenyan would also be fun :)
Just in time, I hope I can win them because me current pair of Trance 8s are getting up in the miles.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change three things about Brooks shoes:
1. I would have a customer order page where you could make your favorite pair of Brooks shoes what ever color you wanted.
2. I would work with RoadID.com and the option to get a built in "dog tag" for the custom colored shoes.
3. Build it LED lights that flash when you step, simular to what is in my son's shoes, they light up when you run. They would only come on if you were running in the dark so that cars could see you. (I thought about suggesting the squeaker like in The Boy's shoes but those things are annoying and The Wife usually takes them out)
1.) Brooks Adrenaline for women: I would remove or soften that little piece in the upper of the shoe that gives me a blister when the shoes are new.
ReplyDelete2.) I'd do a better job of touting the sustainable and equitable practices of the company (Brooks is pretty green and righteous, especially compared to other shoe companies)
3.) I would give all Brooks employees the day off to run!
Hey FL, here are my three improvements if I were playing CEO for a day:
ReplyDelete1- my running shoes right now really (REALLY) stink! I would research a way to keep your shoes smelling fresh even after running threw a huge pond blocking the trail or running through torrential downpour.
2- I think I have found my perfect shoe (I hope I have at least) but I still get blisters after those 20 milers. I would create a shoe that always was nice and gentle to my (and the wearers) feet. Because blister free is the way to be!
3- Where I do my long runs there are TONS of other runners... many of who are very attractive men. I would create a shoe that calls out to those attractive men to give them a little encouragement... and maybe my phone number as well...The shoe would also have a cheering mode that would cheer for me and my group when we need the encouragement most!
Hope you liked it FL! This was fun!
Leah
Since this is a dream scenario:
ReplyDelete1. Instant color change to suit my whims.
2. Integration for the shoe to wash my socks after the run. This of course re-freshens the shoes themselves in the process.
3. Inclusion of a cheering squad that knows just what to say and when to say it. "You can do it! Run Happy! You're the best runner ever, and hills hate you!"
1. Automatic soppy feet driers. No more squashing and squishing after I hit a puddle!
ReplyDelete2. Little flying wings that propel me at about mile 23.2.
3. Pockets Pockets and more pockets that don't effect the aerodynamics of things...
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete1. Color customization ... on the fly. My high school cheerleading shoes had changeable plastic inserts so the logo could be whatever color worked for the day. Maybe not the most practical add-on to running shoes, but some of us like to match!
ReplyDelete2. Waterproof AND breathable. Yes this defies the laws of physics, but it rains here. And it snows! And running through mostly melted snow puddles leads to mostly frozen feet. It is also hot here. So some type of magical material that can solve these issues would be pretty fabulous.
3. Room for my pinkie toes. I don't have wide feet. But I have widely spaced pinkie toes. They are constantly rubbing against the top/side of every pair of running shoes I own. I end up with blisters on the tops of my little toes or holes in my shoes or most frequently both. And that teeny little toe can be a big problem when it starts screaming 2 miles in to a double digit run ...
*sigh*
long time listener, first time caller!
ReplyDeleteI like Brooks shoes, and what they seem to be about as a company, but if I were ceo for a day:
shift a good portion of R&D from new shoe designs to recycling/eco/footprint issues. What is the point of being able to run on a planet with stinky water or air? BioMOGO is a great 'step' but the uppers are composed of lots of little bits sewn together, there is waste there, primarily for fashion not form. It might not be worth the trade we are making. I'd buy a bland shoe that was 100% recyclable certainly.
start recycling programs to recover existing shoes and either renew them in some small way and repurpose them in developing countries or chew em up and make whatever you make out of recycled foam and plastic.
really make sure that manufacturing labour standards are not taking advantage of cheap labour, that they have access to health care, etc. I don't necessarily expect parity across different countries/regions, but we need to get the rest of the world up to sufficient middle class living standards. Things like a living wage relative to the country and also worker protections like OSHA here. To sacrifice this so I can have a 90$ running shoe is not worth it in my mind. I'd pay more.
The Green room section on their website does mention some of these issues already, it is a good start. I don't see anything however about where the shoes are manufactured. Transparency sells.
Great idea FL. Brooks has always appealed to me and their support of you and other individuals and bloggers makes them more appealing.
and in the funny category: a shoe that talks to you and says either "you are so goodlookin' or trash talks you when you slow down. 'mr. T says move ya butt fool! no time for jibber-jabba'
the ceo challenge? i would change the lacing. currently i am in love with the yankz laces making my running shoes a slip-on. they are awesome. make a running shoe with no laces or yankz built in and it's marketing gold.
ReplyDeleteI'd love a pair of shoes that are wide enough for my big feet, but are still snug in the heel.
ReplyDeleteI'd also make each style of shoe available in lots of colors, and I'd make a sneaker with a little jet pack attached to each sole - we could all use a little extra boost sometimes, but obviously, these are not race day shoes.
Wow! Thanks FL and Brooks!
ReplyDeleteIf I was CEO for the day (that would be so awesome) I have just a few things that I would change, but I have to say, Brooks is doing an great job anayway!
1. Each pair of shoes purchased would have a portion of that sale go towards some sort of funding for a shoe program in either a H.S. or under privildged track program locally or to one internationally. It's all about sharing the love, right?
2. If we stay with the sharing the love part, each shoe would be so comfortable, so supportive, so perfectly molded for your foot that you would smile your entire workout - long runs and and even speed work outs! You would have such a big smile on your face that you would EVEN smile to the bikers that yell at you as you run and share the paths!
3. Finally, each pair of shoes would magically switch colors to match your running outfit for the day. I hate that my shoes are orange right now, and the majority of my clothes are pink! Or, each shoe model would come in a rainbow of colors, not just flourescent orange and yellow!
Thanks again for sharing the love and passing on the run happy motto. I totally have my fingers crossed that I am gonna nail this give a way! I really need me some new Brooks and some new shorts!
How about a pair of Brooks shoes with a built in toilet paper dispenser? (eco friendly t.p. of course)
ReplyDeleteI'd love a pair of shoes that:
ReplyDelete-Lasted 1,000 miles
-Weighed less than 5 ounces each
-Never came untied
-Never blistered and could be worn without socks :)
if I was the current Brooks CEO, these are the changes I would make...
ReplyDelete1. I'd make them super cute and colorful. Right now, I'm in the mood for some gray kicks with hot pink accents. Oh wait, or bright yellow accents.
2. I'd make them super light wait and airy. The cushion would remain plush and pillow-like for at least a month. Most feel super comfy for about a week but the inserts in sneaks wear down too quick.
3. I'd also give them away for free. For one whole day! Or, I'd slash prices and create a frequent buyer program. My past few pairs have been Brooks and it would be nice to get a discount for my loyalty.
First I would put my feet up on the desk and revel in my awesomeness. Then I would FaceBook about my new job along with a bunch of pictures to prove it's really me. Next I would go down to R&D and geek out on the newest version of the super lightweight helium filled shoe and since I'm CEO they'd want my opinion on the latest changes. So I'd have to go for an easy 20 miler.
ReplyDeleteWhile out running I'd be inspired about a new shoe that kept these darn little pebbles and sand out. When I got back, I'd have the R&D team sew on a micro sized gator to the opening of the shoe and since I know nothing about making and designing shoes we would do one shoe with a drawstring cord and the other with built in elastic. By the time I got back to my office it would be lunch time. I would take the whole building, except for one poor sucker who had to stay back to answer the phones and sign for packages, to a long high Carb (see Pizza & Beer) lunch.
After lunch, everybody is feeling good so I’d ask them to think outside the box and come up with a way to put a nano sensor in the Toe box of every shoe that could sense your Hydration level. It would have a 3 LED’s to let you know your H2O and Electrolyte levels. And we would defer the extra $0.83 per shoe by making money selling our own Brooks sports drink.
I would then ask for a colored strip down the back of the Midsole, just like the one on your toothbrush, that would turn white (well white-ish since old shoes are never white there will never be a way to keep them white) when it was time to replace them. They would tell me the die is not Eco-Friendly so we would just put a 3x11 inch piece of recycled paper in the shoebox so runners could have a place for each shoes mileage log.
The last thing I would ask of my dedicated workers is that they develop an air freshener to hang from my rear view mirror that smelled like a new shoe. I would have them put 3 in every box of shoes will sold. One for your car and one for each shoe, because there is no sadder day then when your new shoes loose that “new shoe smell.” Of course it would be in the shape of a Brooks shoe not a Christmas Tree.
I would then send everybody home early so they could get in a run before dinner.
-how about shoes with lights on them, my 4 year old gets to stomp around with shoes that look like police cars, i have to strap a light to my arm
ReplyDelete-one word....velcro
-and it would be nice if my shoes could not stink so much,
Awesome giveaway! I never win but I'll play...
ReplyDelete1) Personalized shoes. I love pink and think it should be on every shoe I wear :) And wouldn't it be great to have something like a road id right on the shoe?!?
2) Air conditioned soles to cool my toasty toes.
3) Shoes that take themselves off my feet then walk over to my fridge and grab a beer. Because sometimes I'm too dang tired to bend over to unlace the shoes after a long/tough run.
1. mileage indicator or something like the indicator on your toothbrush letting you know when you really should get a new pair.
ReplyDelete2. agreed, more PINK!
3. more green practices... recycling old shoes, using them to make new shoes, etc.
1.) Make them reflective/glow-in-the-dark. That way people would always see you when you run in the dark without the need for buying reflectors or reflective clothing.
ReplyDelete2.) Make them air-conditioned. I don't know how it would work, but it would be awesome, and provide some air for those whose feet smell less than stellar after a long run :-P
3.) GPS in the shoe - for keeping pace/distance. For no extra charge. That is totally realistic, right?
For the FL contest...If I were the Brooks CEO for a day, three things I would change in my running shoes are:
ReplyDelete1. Running pants - They are usually impossible to take off over shoes, so I would keep changing them until my running pants department invented a pair that didn't cause a hammy pull to remove.
2. Hair color - I would probably change this every day to match the color of my shoes, and wear them while the dye sets in. Only then, would I begin to realize that some of these colors really are a bit much.
3. Name - I would change my name to Brooks. Maybe just my last name. And I would wear my shoes to court when I did it. Then, I would be advertising Brooks shoes, and myself at the same time. It would also show my true dedication to the company. Bet the CEO of Gu wouldn't try that.
Hmmmm if I were CEO for a day...
ReplyDelete1. I would make the shoes have an ability to self-clean themselves because, let's face it, there is nothing better than clean, new shoes
2. I would make the shoes have a cruise control option...Boston, here we come! hehe ;)
3. The shoes would have built in pockets for keys...just because that's just practical.
what a great chart! I'm definitely going to use that when it's time for new shoes.
ReplyDeleteHmm...3 things:
- I wish my shoes were light as air, but supportive as I need them to be.
- I wish I could have them ANY color I wanted!
- I wish it had some sort of cool pocket to carry cash, ID, etc.
1) various color options for each shoe style. Because it sucks when you find the perfect pair, and they are only available in like, macaroni and cheese yellow (as was the case with my previous pair of sneakers)
ReplyDelete2) perhaps some sort of sensor that goes off if you are about to step in something really gross, such as gum or poop
3)did I mention the color? I am always drawn to Newtons and Zoot shoes because they are so darn pretty (I'm such a girl) but my feet probably wouldn't agree. I need more color variety people!
I love the idea of shoes with a pocket in the sole! A place for my ID a little cash and a key!
ReplyDeleteShoes with built in socks!
And finally a shoe that can change colors to match my outfit!
Thanks for the chance to win!
CEO Ideas...hmmm
ReplyDelete1. Include a return shipping label/bag with each pair of shoes, similar to HP toner cartridges. The shoes returned would be either donated to charity or recycled.
2. Running on a track, particularly indoors with tighter turns, you tend to always run in the same direction and turn always to the left. Support and soles seem to be designed to run straight. Why not make racing shoes with soles that provide better grip on left turns, particularly to prevent rotation about the ball of the foot?
3. By the time I finish a marathon, I'm really not in the mood to bend down and untie my laces to remove a transponder. While I appreciate the staff at some races who will do this for you, it would be nice if the shoe had a secure loop that would hold one in place.
PS - I'm willing to go to work for Brooks if they like my ideas. I'll settle for a position lower than CEO, too.
Hmm...if I were the CEO of Brooks for a day...i'd:
ReplyDelete1. Make shoes that do the running for me by having little jet engines built in. This would also make me super fast. I know this is cheating...but...i'm the CEO and I can do whatever I want!
2. Add some sort of mood enhancer to the shoes. The minute you put them on - voila, you want to go out for a run! There's no stopping me now!
3. I'd also make sure they never get stinky by including some sort of air freshener in the sole. No more stinky gym bag!
Well, I do love, love, love my Brooks Addictions but if I had to change one thing, it would be to make the forefoot a little stiffer. Weird, I know. It's just that my poor big toe has very limited mobility and it gets sore when required to flex.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Ooh this is fun!
ReplyDelete1.) A little strap to hold my house key maybe?
2.) Make em a bit cheaper.
3.) Make some in hot pink and dark gray...cutest color combo ever!
Thanks!
I would like a pair of shoes that were attached to a hovering tv so that I could watch my favorite shows while hitting the pavement.
ReplyDeleteI was trying to read everyone's comments so I didn't steal anyone's idea, but that's not happening. I got halfway through before I figured it was a lost cause.
ReplyDelete1) make shoes with a chip already imbedded in them. That way you wouldn't have to remove it after a marathon, because that's always a pain. Maybe it could measure speed/ distance/ map your route, and then automatically beam to your online running log too?
2)Make cooler laces. I have a love affair with flourecent laces, so make them cool. I'm not a fan of spending $6 on laces after I just spent $80 on shoes. I dunno, maybe glow in the dark laces too? That'd be pretty cool.
3) An owner- loyalty program that gives runners a discount after x pairs of shoes (ex. After 3 pairs from Brooks, get a 10% discount) and a deeper discount on each subsequent shoe purchase after that
Gotta support the running shoe from my state, I'm going to put this out there, the best companies originate from Washington. I'm headed down to Bothell to take up my position of CEO...
ReplyDelete1. Light without sacrificing cushioning.
2 Darker colors as the base color with light color contrasting, no body likes a dirty looking shoe.
3. Pairs that have different options for insoles that fit your arch and pronation, it'd be nice not having to buy SuperFeet for all my running shoes.
Since running causes my feet to look not-so-pretty, I'd like a pair of shoes that could...
ReplyDelete1) exfoliate my feet without getting rid of crucial callouses,
2) painted and dried my toenails while I was running, and
3) changed colors depending on what nail polish color was being painted on my toes.
A girl can dream, can't she?
I didn't read through everyone's so, these may be repeated....
ReplyDelete1. They would have interchangeable uppers so that I could match my mood. "I'm feeling pretty neon orange today..."
2. They would have some sort of auto dry function both for rain and man sweat.
3. They would auto dispense some sort of energy gel.
What a great giveaway!
ReplyDelete(1) I'd make a trail shoes that safeguarded against any form of turned ankle.
(2) I'd eliminate light blue from the color palette of women's running shoes.
(3) Does Brooks make a gortex cascadia for cold-weather trail running? If not, let's add that to the list, too. Good for snowshoeing races!
First thing I would change about mu running shoes if I were Brooks CEO would be... make them Brooks. It wouldn't do to have the CEO of Brooks running around in a pair of NB or Nike or Asics, now, would it?
ReplyDeleteThe second thing I would change about the running shoes would be to see how little of a shoe we could get away with. I'm beginning to prescribe to the theory that less is more for most people, and that proper technique should trump proper shoe type.
And the third thing I would change about my running shoes would be the design. My wife has a keen eye for color combinations and what makes a running shoe "cute", so she would be my #1 consultant to make sure that all Brooks running shoes can be considered "cute." cuz that's important, yo. :)
Putting on my imginary Brooks CEO hat, I would impliment the following enhancements:
ReplyDelete1. Look as cute on my feet as Christian Louboutin heels!
2. Include a free entry to the Boston marathon in the box!
3. Miraculously take 30 seconds/mile off my running pace.
If I were a Brooks CEO for a day, what top three things would change I in running shoes?
ReplyDelete1. Create a wicking running shoe and/or a material to use on the shoe that was breathable as well as promted faster drying after an especially sweaty run!
2. BYOS - Build your own shoe! You get choices of shoe soles, design and color.
3. Built in odometer - not only for wear purposes but to use for training
I so need to try a pair of Brooks! I always hear good things about them and have loved learning all about them through your posts. Thanks Brooks!!!
I would make the next Adrenaline's green. The perfect shoe needs to be in the perfect color
ReplyDeleteI would include a free pair of performance socks with each shoe purchase
I would add in a set of insoles so people can change them out halfway through the life of the shoe.
Long-time lurker/reader but who can resist a giveaway?
ReplyDelete1. Make the big feet women's shoes look small and dainty, so us luau-feet girls don't feel we have giant elephant feet (I wear size 13!)
2. More cute colors.
3. Make me run faster (or at least give the illusion I am!).
1) For sure, minimize. The more natural they feel on my feet, the better.
ReplyDelete2) Something in them that gives you instant feedback when you don't land first on your midfoot, to encourage better running form.
3) A tongue that is sewn down so as not to slide to one side or the other.
1. I would want a shoe that when you step in doggie poop, it turns it into a rainbow because seriously, don't we all need less poop and more rainbows?
ReplyDelete2. I'd design my shoe to spurt out random Tracy Morgan one-liners when it senses that my speed is slowing and I need comic relief ("I am a Jedi Knight!!")
3. I'd want a shoe that could issue moving violation tickets to drivers that do illegal ( and dangerous) things that risk the lives of runners (running red lights, not looking for runners when they go right on a red, blowing through crosswalks - ugh)
If you were Brooks CEO for a day, what would be the top three things you would change in your running shoes?
ReplyDeleteI'd make shoes that were oh so cute, making women's shoes a bit more feminine looking than they are now. And, make their stability shoes a bit lighter. After all, I want support, but not if it's to the tune of a shoe that's weighing me down. And ultimately, I'd come up with a plan to match the "run happy" slogan/ads/commercials with the look of the shoes. The shoes come off a bit serious to me vs the ads which say "hey, Brooks are fun, cool, hip!"
Oh man...87 comments later, here I am! First off, I just watched the Brooks ID Camp video on their site and saw YOU no less than 4 times. So I came back here, and what do ya know? You're having a Brooks giveway, thus I enter...
ReplyDelete1. The shoes would have some kind of sensor that would let you know, without guess-work, when it's really and truly time for a new pair.
2. There would be some sort of magical thing in the arch and forefoot that would prevent you (read: ME) from overpronating, yet not be too hard on your feet.
3. In my store, for every article of clothing you buy, you'd get points toward a new pair of shoes, that way you could use points and dollars to pay for them, so you wouldn't go broke but could still afford bitchin' shoes.
4. Green, green, green...in terms of colour and environment!
My three ideas...
ReplyDeleteCreate a Brooks 5k race in multiple cities - and then let anyone with Brooks running shoes race for free (or 50% off if you have other apparel). Include in the goodie bag for non-Brooks registrants a coupon for Brooks shoes from the local running store - that way next year they can race for free. Have all the cool tech stuff you wrote about available there so the rest of the non-Brooks wearing running community can realize what they are missing out on.
Include ExpressPay from American Express on it so I don't have to stash a drink on my long runs. I can just walk into 7 eleven (or CVS, or countless other places), grab a gatorade, wave my shoe in front of the reader and head out. Maxwell Smart had a shoe phone - Brooks brings you Shoe Money!
My third idea I'm stealing - I love the idea of a shoe light so I can see where the potholes are on my run when I forget to bring a light with me or the sun goes down sooner than I thought it would!
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete1. I would institute the Obama stimulus shoe plan.
ReplyDelete2. Design some sort of perpetual motion sole.
3. Install an odor-eater insole.
This is an awesome giveaway. Thanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI would like a shoe that does not wear out for at least 2 years ( to cut down on cost).
One that makes me faster at the same time helps with my endurance.
Lastly a shoe that feels as light as feather.
oh, this is so fun!!
ReplyDelete1 - I'd like them to have more room in the toe area for my annoying and gross bunion which kills during long runs.
2 - I'd like them to be super light so I couldn't even tell I was wearing a pair of shoes.
3 - I'd also like more fun colors. We spend so much time in these things, I want them to be cute!!
If I were CEO for a day I would
ReplyDeleteFirst put GPS in the shoes with a tiny little computer because my greatest fear while running/racing is getting lost. Then I would make that GPS computer thing talk to you. It would be like your little running buddy and it would be personalized to you so that you could have it tell you stats or just talk to you about your life. I mean I cant always run with a buddy so this way I would have some one to talk to. Then ppl would think I was weird cause I was talking to my shoe but whatever. Next feature would be a recording device because honestly I come up with my BEST ideas while running and then when I get home I forget them! Seriously I could be a millionaire right now with all the neat stuff I have thought of on runs!
Of course I would want the shoes to be cheaper and fit me better and last longer but I would want them to be supped up with technology. And I would put some reflectors on there so that when I run in the dark mornings people can see me!
Ok that is all i would do and then I would be fired because those shoes would cost so much to make!
one of the things I learned in my econ class was that there is no such thing as a free lunch. This site is beginning to look like a commercial.
ReplyDeleteI love your posts FL but you are now working for Brooks. No more schwag for you. You have to work for it.
1. Shoes that would do all the running for me
ReplyDelete2. Superior pubic ramus stress fracture protection bult into the shoe (having had two pelvic fractures in one year's time, I REALLY need this feature!)
3. Pink - hot pink, light pink, neon pink. I would love a pair of Brooks in all different shades of pink!
Delurk Alert:
ReplyDeleteIf I were to spend one day as the CEO for Brooks and I could choose three things to do to change my running shoes, I would...
...put my "MOST AWESOME SHOE EVER" design into the production phase. This shoe:
- has an alarm clock
- pulls you out of bed when you hit the snooze button for the fourteenth time
- forces itself onto your feet and walks you out the door
- keeps you company on that eighteen miler you had planned but just don't want to do. This also includes a stint of motivating statements. Customers can choose the format of this motivation: snarky, personal, sweet, etc.
... figure out a way of making your favorite pair of runners last forever - I always feel like I'm losing a close friend when I have to get a new pair of shoes!
... change the shoe boxes just a little bit to include quotes from runners. The survey conducted to collect these quotations would ask one simple question: "Why do you run?" And the answers would be put on shoe boxes. Wouldn't it be awesome to have that box?
Well, I'll include a fourth, just for kicks...
... I wouldn't want to make a pair of shoes that intimidates people, but how about a pair of shoes that everyone looks and thinks, "WOW! Those are awesome! I want to start running too!" Then we can get more people to join the running bandwagon and thereby increase the population of awesome-people-who-are-also-runners.
1. i'd like shoes that magically strap to my feet at the sound of my morning alarm, and they don't let me take them off until i finish my speed workout.
ReplyDelete2. i'd like shoes that could send a signal to approaching streetlights and make the light give me the "walk" signal so i don't have to wait at intersections.
3. i'd like shoes with a built in dog poo sensor that warns me before i step in it.
Awesome contest!
ReplyDeleteI'd make a pair of shoes that:
1. had adjustable cushioning (a little more for the balls of my feet after a long night in heels, a little more for my heels when my ankle's feeling funny...)
2. wirelessly transmitted music to my headphones, and talked to me/provided motivation when I'm having a crappy run
and
3. had pockets for my keys, ID, etc. that didn't have to strap on or stick out funny
I'd like a pair of running shoes with some 007-inspired spikes that pop out whenever some obnoxious skeevy guy (who have some sort of immunity to my dirty looks and engagement ring waves! Seriously, pal?) jumps onto the treadmill next to me and disrupts my early AM run!
ReplyDeleteBut seriously though...
The more comfortable they are (without getting bulky), they better they are. And I'm tired of feeling anxiety everytime I buy a shoe because I don't know if it's for people that overpronate or underpronate or have bunyons or whatever.... a great running shoe for everyone! (In a perfect world, right?)
It would be cool to have a pair of running shoes that could hook up to an ipod-touch/iphone application... a la the Nike program.
Hmmm...fun question! The top 3 things I'd do are:
ReplyDelete1. Make shoes that are completely environmentally friendly (use recycled materials, use local materials, etc) while maintaining their comfort and durabilty.
2. Make shoes that automatically adjust to my foot when they are put on -- lace tightness, arch support, etc.
3. Make the shoes practice foot reflexology / acupressure and target the endocrine glands and the digestive system (to maximize my weight control efforts) :)
I had Brooks Ghost shoes and loved them, but I have to say my Mizuno Wavriders work better for my high arched, thin feet because of better cushioning...So...
ReplyDelete1. Please put better cushioning in the arches. I would have kept buying Ghosts had the mid-cushioning been better.
2. Make your other shoes look as good as the Cascadias...those are so hot! I almost want to be a trail runner just because they look so dang good.
3. I think your shoes are pretty affordable actually, but I'd like more incentive to buy them. Circulate Brooks coupons for local running stores.
I love that you guys take care of runners though. The Brooks brand makes me feel like I know where my bread is buttered.
I have Brooks Defyance 2 shoes and love them.
ReplyDeleteMy three things:
1. Make sure my shoes were manufactured ethically. Brooks is pretty good here but could be better.
2. More colours!
3. A built in sensor that could report on any problems with your gait etc.
Wow! I didn't realize so many runners were obsessed with their shoe color! LOL Function over fashion is my motto.
ReplyDeleteI've been running for about 2 yrs and am still a newbie and I'm LOVING my 1st pair of Brooks that I got a couple months ago. Look pretty dingy, but function as good as when I 1st got them!
How about shoe's with a poo repellant? That's dog-poo, duck-poo, pigeon-poo...whichever! Either kick a lil higher or repel the smell if you just can't miss it! *bleech* hahaha :-)
Shoes that are breathable, but still keep your feet dry when it's raining. I know that's asking a lot, but mine just get soaked in no time!
A hidden pouch to slide a key or chapstick in to. just a small slot on the outside of the shoe that faces to the inside. If I wear my velcro key pocket thingy that I have now to fit on my shoe, then I can't get the shoe tightened up right.
1. I'd like shoes that feel broken in the first time I put them on.
ReplyDelete2. I'd like shoes that either repelled dirt or could be washed in the washing machine without fear of destroying something significant in the structure.
3. I'd like shoes that would inspire a comment that would make you laugh!
1) Create a shoe that prevents black toenails and loss of said toenails.
ReplyDelete2) A shoe that can work during a triathalon - lightweight enought to swim in and then instantly dries when on land, clips can be attached for the bike, and then removed for the run. A time saver during transitions.
3) And i would love a shoe that lasts more than 500 miles
oh how fun! how great that job would be...
ReplyDeleteso i'd want:
1. shoes that changed colors w/ my mood. holla back to the 70's.
2. when i start to slow pace (like, waayyy down), i want 'em to wirelessly trigger my ipod to start bumpin my most motivational beats. we've all got those songs that help us kick it up a notch, so that would rock.
3. a nearly-invisible pouch to hold a gel-encased shot. yes, probably totally counterproductive, but sometimes after a killer long run, i want to reward myself ;)
i'm on my way to owning the 'glycerin'...everyone in my fam wears them!
If I am a CEO just for 24 hours period, I would do three things.
ReplyDelete(1) Gain access to the CEO's investment portfolio and sell a million shares of Brooks stock and rake it to my personal account.
(2) Transfer all 401(K) and other benefit to my retirement account.
(3) Ask the Government for a lot of stimulus money or bailout money for Brooks and use the money as a bonus for working very hard for 24 hours at Brooks.
Once I have amass all of this, I will upstart my own running shoes company.
1) More solid colors (other than white/grey). I would love a pair of red trainers.
ReplyDelete2) Personalization. Wouldn't it be cool if we could get our screen names inscribed on our shoes?
3) A pedometer built into the shoe to show current shoe mileage.
I've been lurking around, being inspired as a newbie runner for a while now, but free stuff will always bring me out! What would I like?
ReplyDelete1. Shoes that will change colors to match my clearance sale running shirt automatically.
2. Auto-ties so that I can just slip them on.
3. A strip on the shoe (kinda like a toothbrush) that will let you know how much time they have left.
If I was the CEO
ReplyDeleteI would make running shoes in more shades of purple.
Maybe a built in pedometer
and run more special promotions
buy 1 get 1 half off
take $5.00 for every friend referal maybe.

First, I want to say I recently switched to Brooks Dyads after being in a different brand stability shoe (the wrong shoe for me!) for years and I LOVE my new Brooks. The difference in my running and how my feet feel is amazing. I'm trying to BQ in a month and I think these shoes will go a long way towards helping me. So my thanks to your BFF at Brooks!
ReplyDeleteIf I were CEO at Brooks:
1) Flashier colors. If they look bright and fast, that may translate to flashier race performance.
2) A "wear indicator" of some sort on the base that turns a different color or something to indicate when the shoes have seen their day. I try to alternate with 2 pair, and I religiously track my mileage, but I don't keep track of which shoes I wear for which miles and I get confused. (Honestly, I probably buy new ones more often than I should, just because I'm worried about running on shoes that are too worn out).
3) How about when you buy a pair of Brooks you register them and tell what average weekly mileage is (or better yet the sales people do it automatically for you) and then Brooks sends you a reminder when it's time to get new shoes (along with a coupon for $$ off the next pair).
Holy crap! 112 comments? I guess I didn't RTFQ the first time and only had one thing. So, my revised list:
ReplyDelete1. Transformer shoes that go from road to trail to track.
2. I'm stealing this from some other entrants, stink eliminator shoes.
3. Some kind of auto-recycle thing where you can turn in an old pair for a discount on a new pair.
3 changes huh?..
ReplyDeletewell i am new to running and haven't tried out brooks shoes before. my running partner likes them but the last model she said they didn't fit around her heel as snug as the older model .. so that can be #1 in honor of her experiences with brooks.
#2 the price
#3 more shoe choices without so much white that gets dirty so quickly.
3 changes huh?..

I had a lot of fun thinking about this question today on my run in my worn out brooks glycerine 7.
ReplyDelete1. In one word... teleportation! Running rocks because you can go anywhere your feet will take you. But how cool would it be if you could go to any era that you wanted? "Scotty, beam me up" :)
2. My next idea I'm not 100% sure how it would be executed but I would LOVE for my shoes to have some special allure that would make people stop gauking at me as I run by, but actually right when I pass they would feel the sudden desire to start running themselves. I was either thinking by money spewing out of my heels so they had to follow me to collect the money or some type of aroma. Maybe the smell of fresh baked cookies or roses!? Because I KNOW that once people do it once they will be hooked from the endorphins.
3. This is my favorite.... my brooks would have a built in fog machine, so I could rock out with my ipod and a mean air guitar!
I'd make a shoe that custom molds to your foot! No more heel blisters or moleskin.
ReplyDeleteI'd also add a built-in distance monitor. Then have it transmit data to a watch you wear on your wrist.
The 3rd change would be to install a sensor in the shoe that alerts you when the shoe has broken down enough that you need to get new ones. That'd take away the worrying if you're getting the most life out of the shoe, and prevent injury from worn down shoes!
1. PRICE, more affordable
ReplyDelete2. Choose your own color scheme
3. small pocket for key
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI would give all blondes free shoes for life (I am the CEO right?)
ReplyDeleteI would make the shoes so light you would forget that you are wearing shoes
I would also make the shoes so comfortable that you would never look at another shoe brand again.
I will never be a CEO of anything (except of myself!), so this is a fun game to play. If I was CEO for the day, I would:
ReplyDelete1. Add in a pedometer/GPS to the shoes since I rotate anywhere between two-four pairs at a time. If I wait a few days to upload my garmin info to Sport Tracks, I usually forget what shoes I wore on each run. Hard to keep up with how many miles are on my shoes!
2. A wider variety of colors! My last five-six pairs of Adrenalines have been various shades of blue. Let's mix it up a bit! Definitely want to get my hands on a red pair...or pink, and I'm not even a girlie girl!
3. Definitely some sort of charity program associated with the shoes/clothing. We runners like to help out other runners/runners to be, so it would be awesome to give back to some sort of high school/inner city/foreign country program to promote health and running! Just by buying shoes. Then we could all "Run Happy!" all the time by knowing that we're making a difference in the world!
Annnnd for the Frayed Laces special:
Add moon bounces to the shoes!! When I was at Space Camp (nerd alert!), we all had a chance to be in the 1/6th gravity chair simulator, where you could bounce around like you were on the moon with 1/6th of the gravity of the Earth. How fun would marathoning be if you could moon bounce your way to the finish line??
What an amazing give away! I would 1) make shoes with foot warmers for the cold weather, 2) make shoes with a pocket in the tongue for your key, and 3) let people customize/make their own color combinations online.
ReplyDelete1. I'd make a pair of sneakers that glowed in the dark (extra glow-y) for safety. Neon colors optional.
ReplyDelete2. I'd make them magically perfect for the feet so there isn't that weird first-day/first-week blister building session.
3. I'd make all of them customizable with no extra charge. Give the people what they want!
wow, very neat! I would ask that 1- they didn't wear out after two months. 2-they didn't cost me an arm and a leg (or offered a frequent buyer program :)) and 3- more color options for those in need of wide widths!
ReplyDeleteif they could actually make me go faster, i'd be able to compromise with #2 :)
I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
ReplyDeleteBetty
http://illinoislottery.info
Ohhh!!!
ReplyDelete#1 - Shoes that lit up for visability and to keep me from stumbling around!
#2 - Shoes with a TP pouch would rock! I'd use that feature more than I'd care to admit!
#3 - The ability to throw down sand when I hit an icy patch!
I'd like to revise mine and add a shoe that activated a skunk/deer/goose/dog repellant would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis giveaway makes me happy - thanks, FL! My three changes as the all-powerful CEO would be:
ReplyDelete1. Design a pair made specifically for night running, with headlights (so I don't have to wear a headlamp).
2. Incorporate a silent, dog deterrent whistle-type thingy.
3. Include free entry to the marathon of your choice with every pair!
FL -
ReplyDeleteLOVE your blog! Long time reader, first time commenter.
My thoughts as CEO?
(in decreasing order of seriousness)
1) Make a shoe designed especially for "larger stature" mid-foot strikers like me. As the Chi-running trend continues to grow, I'd try to address needs of this growing group.
2) Longer lasting treads - the good forefoot cushioning shoes I have found unfortunately also wear out in the tread quickly - meaning my shoes aren't very long lived.
3) offer shoes that contain special "whoopie-cushion" effects with each stride. That way, I can blame my shoes for my repetitive noise-making.
4) Programmable LEDs on the back of the shoes to display customized messages: "Yes, a fat, slow guy DID just pass you", "objects may be faster than they appear", "follow me to the bagels", etc.
5) Homing device so I can easily find my wife after large races - assuming I'm not in the med tent.
6) more seriously, a pocket to hold an SD card with runner ID and health info - to help EMTs quickly obtain lifesaving info if needed if I pass out.
Keep up the good work!!
1. I would incorporate a Garmin GPS unit into one shoe.
ReplyDelete2. I would design a scale into the shoes with a snooty British voice that calls out your weight--and insults about that weight--at random times when running.
3. I would charge the engineering team with designing a wear indicator that prevents you from using worn out shoes.
Hmmm... the top three things I would change:
ReplyDelete1) Make a "Minnesota" shoe with better traction and better stability for running in the winter on our icy paths. And make it so your damn toes don't get frost bite when it is -15°!
2) Make said shoe actually still breathable, unlike other supposedly "winterized" shoes I've seen.
3) Get crackin' with the research & development team to work on a shoe that is more environmentally friendly. I believe Brooks IS one of the companies that has started this process, but I would like to see it apply to all the shoes, not just a specific (and more expensive) model.
p.s. I SUPPOSE we could share that Minnesota shoe with other midwest states.. maybe. :)
1. More options for those of us with wide, flat feet
ReplyDelete2. A triathlon specific running shoe
3. better stock insoles
I have always been a lurker, but my desire for free stuff always breaks my no-comment habits. I would like running shoes that
ReplyDelete1. Have lights in them to help with footing during my pre-dawn runs.
2. Have a built in metronome to work on cadence
3. Have wear indicators (like on road tires) on the tread and the insoles so I do not have to remember/record how much mileage I have on them.
I love Brooks.
ReplyDelete1) I would do is cancel the current ad campaign. It is not funny. It is condescending and insulting to both runners and non-runners.
2) I would study Nike's ads for inspiration as to how to inspire and tap into the love of running.
3) If you ship a pair of shoes out, enclose a return address label so that the old shoes can be sent back to Brooks to coordinate a shoe giveaway to an organization like shoe4africa.com A great way to promote loyalty and do good.
If you were Brooks CEO for a day, what would be the top three things you would change in your running shoes?
ReplyDelete1. Change the outer designs. Something that I wouldn't mind wearing out places! Wearing my running shoes out during the day makes me feel like a middle-aged Dad (no offense to middle-aged Dads).
2. Something like the pocket on my Roos brand shoes, that would be a perfect fit for my key or some cash. Or maybe even my ID. I couldn't take advantage of the beer special after my last race b/c of my lack of ID!
3. Remember LA Lights? Now THAT would be sweet.

If I was the Brooks CEO for a day, I would already know that my company already makes the best running shoes in the world. Instead of changing the current product line, I would focus on ending the nipple-chafing epidemic that is plaguing male runners. I would offer free surgical nipple removal to any man who was willing to have the official Brooks logo permanently tattooed in place of their nipple.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a fun game!
ReplyDelete1. shoes that have built in massage capabilities so they actually feel much better as you pile on the miles.
2. interchangeable color panels to coordinate with outfits...c'mon fashion is good!
3. make the shoes a bit cheaper....running gets so expensive sometimes!!
Well let's see here...in a perfect world, my shoes would be:
ReplyDelete1) CHEAPER!!! Do I really need to drop $100+ every 300-500 miles to keep my joints stuck together??
2) Easier to find in the right size. Come on people...if you sell a lot of size 13, make a lot of them!
3) Edible. Why the hell not? When they're all worn out you could just peel off the outsole and devour the chewy nougat-like padding the in the middle. Seriously...we've got air-filled shoes and gel-filled shoes...why can't we fill them with some delicious shock-absorbing cream like a twinkie? Talk about your convenient post-race recovery snack. I'd throw down $125 for a set of those bad boys. Num num.
HAhah oh man....I want my shoes to:
ReplyDelete1. Contain rocket launcher or some other speed aid so just once I can win an age group award. (Or why not dream big...I want to win the whole race haha)
2. Have interchangeable colored logos that I can swap out based on my mood that day just because it would be fun.
3. Blast cool or warm air up my body depending on the season so I'd have my own personal AC for summer hot runs or my own personal heater for cooler runs.
Ahhh Brooks, they are great :)
ReplyDelete1. Make the shoe, somehow, Garmin compatible, so that simply running would power my Garmin, and at the touch of a button, wirelessly upload the run to my computer.
2. Get with that barefoot movement, get us some Brooks skins to run in at the beach.
3. Drop the price so I can still afford Brooks when I'm no longer CEO ;)
I would create a program for high school kids...a reality TV webstyle for a Cross-Country team.
ReplyDelete1. High school Cross Country coaches around the US would be sent a letter and application to apply to have their season sponsored by Brooks Running. The applicatiojn process would include photos of the athletes and a creative webvideo for me to review.
2. Once the team is selected they would all be brought in for PROPER shoe fitting and gait testing to determine the best shoe for each person. The team would also get to select the apparel for the Entire team, with speciality colors and uniforms designed by the team where they see fit.
3. The team would be used in several Marketing campaigns, with photos of the team in Brooks on the website, magazines and Bill boards. During the Season the athletes and coaches would be asked to Blog about their progress and creative webvideos.
This marketing campaign would serve several purposes.
1. Draw countless high school athletes, parents and coaches to the Brooks website.
2. Bring a "Real People" feel to the brand
3. Make the dreams of young athletes come true with minimal dollars and time spent.
1. Better looking running shoes (e.g., a wider variety of colors, "funkier" stripes, etc.).
ReplyDelete2. Better marketing (remember, I'm CEO, and want to maximize value). Currently, the only people that know about Brooks are those who buy shoes at running stores. And new runners don't even know to ask for them. If you only want to market to seasone runners and develop a niche, that's fine, but develop a marketing campaign built around the "hardcore runner." If you want more mass appeal, create a broader-based campaign - but spread the word!
3. An invisible pump that, with every step, makes your butt look perkier. One could set the desired perkiness and calibrate the pump accordingly.
I would come up with a cute pink men's running shoe (I have to wear men's - and they aren't so attractive)
ReplyDeleteIt would need to be both supportive for my ankles, but still be cushiony enough to help out my knees!
Ohhhhh, If I was CEO for a day at Brooks:
ReplyDelete1)I'd make a shoe that does the running for you and tells you about it when they get home ( just for those frustrating, too busy days of course) cuz I love to get up at the butt crack of dawn and do it myself :0)
2) I would contact ALL of my Bloggy followers ( all 22) and offer them a great giveaway just like Frayed Laces!! Free Brooks to the Followers and giveaways for their blogs!! I am new to running and blogging and just waiting for my first product "partnership"!!!
3) I would custom make a shoe to work just for me....if you follow my blog, I have bought and returned 6 pair of shoes and 7, 8, & 9 are on their way today....I am having a shoe search nightmare that is never ending!! HELP!!! I think I could solveit if I was CEO of Brooks!!
I run in Brooks Adreline's already and love the shoes. If I were CEO I would make shoes to capture the minimalist movement that is happening. I would make a pair that uses normal colors and make some wild and funky colors too. This way conservative people like me could break out and do something different. and finally I would make them more affordable.
ReplyDeleteI would love a shoe with a built in odometer! The shoes signal off each other to tell just how long your stride is and thus how far you're running. : ) Riiight.....
ReplyDeleteI'd love more color, and something nice and cushy. The toes would appreciate cushy. And gosh, while I'm at it, something like memory foam inside that molds itself to your foot for a perfect foot while still providing great support.
ohhh shoes that could fly... literally with wings and all. In real life though I would do something to support local schools, find a way to put good shoes on kids who couldn't afford them. Make them lifelong customers (and perhaps athletes) by making an impact now. Oooh and put an onsite child care, massage service and fund day services for your employees (loving how Sierra Nevada Brewery does these things for their employees!).
ReplyDeleteWhat a great contest and cute idea! Let's see....if I were CEO...I would like to see:
ReplyDelete1. Shoes with more reflective material sewn in for dusk and nighttime safety.
2. The option of printing your personal information somewhere on the shoe when you order it online. That way your road ID stuff is in your shoes.
3. Pink....more pink. LOL!
For the grab bag special I would totally like a shoe with a beer opener on the bottom, like the reef sandals. Like Jamoosh said in his blog once, instead of R.I.C.E. it is actually B.R.I.C.E. *beer, rest, ice, compression, elevation*
ReplyDeleteAmanda
Also for the grab bag special I would like a shoe that secretly shoots out a gross odor that will cripple runners who may be running up behind me! And it would super cool if it could shoot out the front to slow the winner down so I could pass them! Now that would be an awesome shoe!

ReplyDeleteIf I were CEO for a day I think I would find a way to make shoes mix and match. Hear me out...so my left foot pronates but my right is fine. If they had a shoe in both styles so that I could buy a shoe to support the pronation of the left foot and had a greater heel and arch support in the right it would be awesome. so maybe they would take orders and you could order a certain shoe for one foot or the other...without having two completely different looking shoes.
ReplyDeletei would definitely change how much the shoes weigh. I have never felt such a heavy running shoe.
Thirdly I would make them more water resistant. Not sure how this could be done so that the foot could also breath but it would be pretty cool.
Amanda
If I were CEO for a day, I would include sticker inserts for under the removable insoles to prevent toe curl. Currently no shoe manufacturer does that, and I have long toes that like to grip on something when I run. Besides that, offer some colors on women's shoes that are in the darker/deeper colorways instead of the white with a stripe of color. I trash my shoes on dirty muddy trails and it would be nice to have them not start as white in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI read the directions wrong and submitted 2 off the topic answers...UGH!! OK attach brain and here we go...third time is a charm, right?
ReplyDelete1. Shoes with a force field which can be used the last 100 yards of a Race so the overly testosterone male runners would not be able to pass the "Chick" at the finish.
2. Shoes with "Beam me up" technology...eliminating the "I forgot my shoes" excuse.
3. Shoes with special gravity de-hancement making me feel 15 pounds lighter without having to give up the Nachos and Icecream.
Yay giveaways!!
ReplyDeleteThe top three things I would change about my shoes:
1) I would create a shoe with no seam between the insole and the side of the shoe--or an insole that is curved upward on the edges so your foot doesn't rub the seam.
2) Make them water-resistant! Having dry feet on a rainy run would be amazingggg!
3) A little pocket on the top of the tongue of the shoe, so you can slide a single key in and have it tightly in place when you tie your shoe.
Let's see....what would I change about my shoes. I would pick way better colors that plain old white and blue, that's boring! More pink, purple, and green! And I'd definitely experiment with the shoe laces, those things never stay tied unless I double knot them.
ReplyDeleteOf course, it would be nice to have some sort of massager in there so my feet feel like they just got a pedicure after a 20 mile run and not like I let a Mac truck back up over them, 20 times.
Hooray for giveaways! Here are my ideas:
ReplyDelete1) I'd like to see a shoe that better suits my overall foot shape. Lots of attention is given to size and insole type - and rightly so, but there are so many kinds of feet out there. Maybe they could make a more adjustable shoe that "wraps" around the foot...?
2) Someone already said this, but I would LOVE a shoe that kept track of mileage. How cool would that be?
3) Kudos to Brooks for their work toward a more environmental shoe. I would love to see a 100% green shoe someday. Keep up the good work.
Running shoes should be more fun! How about 1) A shoe that changes color based on your mood. 2) A shoe that tells you when your soles on done and you need new ones, no more guessing based on mileage! 3) Built in cooling system for those hot summer runs.
ReplyDeleteI'd like shoes with a pocket for my key, like the old school roos!
ReplyDeleteI'd like shoes where the tongue always stayed in place.
I'd like shoes the didn't cost an arm and a leg so I didn't always put of replacing them til I get injured.
1. A shoe that does not make me look fat.
ReplyDelete2. A "recesssion" priced shoe.
3. A shoe with a job. I'm broke!
I would make everything greener at a lower price point!
ReplyDeleteWow, great question!
ReplyDelete1) A shoe so flashy and cool looking that the ladies would cat-call and whistle at me :)
2) Wider varieties for their flats
3) Shoes that were a little more breathable
Hmm...
ReplyDelete1) A good shoe that they don't go tweakin' every year! Different colors are okay but if it works, don't fix it!
2) Speaking of colors.... You don't have to get fancy! Basic stuff, please.
3) Frequent Flyer shoe program!
Sorry if any of this was said already..
ReplyDeleteIf I were CEO for the day, I would:
1. Include a set of color coordinated laces with each shoe purchase.
2. Incorporate some new, more fashionalbe color combinations such as brown/blue, brown/pink. Everything doesn't have to be all white with just one other color on the side...bo-ring!
3. Some sort of customer appreciation point system where you earn points for spending a certain amount of money. When you reach that dollar goal then the company send you a coupon for maybe $25 off your next Brooks purchase.
I'd love to make a pair of shoes that don't get dirty! I hate that most running shoes are some variation of white, and I destroy them within a week. Also, I'd create customizable-colored shoes.
ReplyDeletehmmm.... how about shoes that don't feel like shoes at all but like you are floating. I'll go with the person who said cheaper... lastly, some sort of built in ertractable foot and leg massager once you cross the finish line and have the long walk back to your car or the train or...
ReplyDeleteShoes that massage, cushion, AND keep your feet in place? I'm an overpronator which I'm pretty sure caused my femural stress fracture last year. I'm also pretty sure that better shoes would have solved this problem!
ReplyDeleteHmmm. Okay, here's what comes to mind right away:
ReplyDelete1) I'd love a pair of trail shoes that don't crowd my toes on long downhills;
2) I second (or third, or tenth) the idea of making it easier to see when your tread is worn down enough that you should toss the pair; and
3) Make the whole process greener, as in more environmentally friendly. I generally give away my "old" (as in three months) shoes to Goodwill or something, as they're still fine for regular walking around. It would be nice to give them back to Brooks to be "refashioned" or something.
-RJ
Hmm, a lot of good suggestions already!
ReplyDelete1. shoes that have some indicator for when they need to be replaced. I have a hard time replacing shoes b/c I always feel like I can squeeze a few more miles out of them. Flashing lights, sirens, something to tell me to get new shoes before I injure myself would be nice.
2. either make them more affordable, or have a "bulk" discount. Maybe even something like the punch cards coffeeshops have around here -- buy 10 shoes get one pair free!
3. not change the design unless there's a reason to -- I hate when I buy a newer version of a certain model only to have it not fit the same! >o
HEY FL!
ReplyDeleteIF I were CEO for a day...and could pick the shoes...
1. Shoes that would have some kind of built in sensor to my brain...that when I'm about to give up, they sparkle or do something to distract me (mile 8...every time.)
2. Shoes that would keep my feet in one place, that if they shif internally during the run, the shoe shifts with them.
3. Logos. Love logos. Fresno State Bulldog shoes. Or, better yet, Dodger Shoes...for the upcoming Stadium to Sea LA Marathon...Or I could just wear them to the World Serioes.
Good to see you!!!
I already submitted my response, but I decided to check back and look at some of the other replies.
ReplyDeleteGood luck choosing winner/s! I hope you enjoy the reading!
Wow, how cool! The three things I would add are:
ReplyDelete1. A motor
2. Some wings
3. And lights in the front
Thanks FrayedLaces!
gosh, i'm not feeling super creative here compared to everybody else!
ReplyDelete1. lighter weight--who doesn't want lighter shoes to wear?
2. cuter colors to match ALL of my running clothes, or maybe little colored panels that can be switched out depending on your running outfit.
3. glow-in-the-dark for people who run at night. maybe add on some lights too :)

1) More solid colors (other than white/grey). I would love a pair of red trainers.
ReplyDelete2) Personalization. Wouldn't it be cool if we could get our screen names inscribed on our shoes?
3) A pedometer built into the shoe to show current shoe mileage.
This is an awesome giveaway. Thanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI would like a shoe that does not wear out for at least 2 years ( to cut down on cost).
One that makes me faster at the same time helps with my endurance.
Lastly a shoe that feels as light as feather.
I would make the next Adrenaline's green. The perfect shoe needs to be in the perfect color
ReplyDeleteI would include a free pair of performance socks with each shoe purchase
I would add in a set of insoles so people can change them out halfway through the life of the shoe.
I would like a pair of shoes that were attached to a hovering tv so that I could watch my favorite shows while hitting the pavement.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of shoes with a pocket in the sole! A place for my ID a little cash and a key!
ReplyDeleteShoes with built in socks!
And finally a shoe that can change colors to match my outfit!
Thanks for the chance to win!
-how about shoes with lights on them, my 4 year old gets to stomp around with shoes that look like police cars, i have to strap a light to my arm
ReplyDelete-one word....velcro
-and it would be nice if my shoes could not stink so much,
I'd love a pair of shoes that:
ReplyDelete-Lasted 1,000 miles
-Weighed less than 5 ounces each
-Never came untied
-Never blistered and could be worn without socks :)
1. Automatic soppy feet driers. No more squashing and squishing after I hit a puddle!
ReplyDelete2. Little flying wings that propel me at about mile 23.2.
3. Pockets Pockets and more pockets that don't effect the aerodynamics of things...
Leah
1.) Brooks Adrenaline for women: I would remove or soften that little piece in the upper of the shoe that gives me a blister when the shoes are new.
ReplyDelete2.) I'd do a better job of touting the sustainable and equitable practices of the company (Brooks is pretty green and righteous, especially compared to other shoe companies)
3.) I would give all Brooks employees the day off to run!
A giveaway!
