Street Rat Crazy

A week? Really? It's been a WHOLE WEEK since I last posted? Sheesh!

Where have I been?

Well, for starters, the 'ol prof is off island for a bit. I decided to heed his advice and take a little "work from home" vacay in his absence. Which meant The Distraction and I spent two days enjoying the beauty of our outdoors with some diving, snorkeling, and certified beach-going. It's pretty sweet that our lull times in research occurred at the same time.

Training wise, I'm still taking it easy. I have the half Ironman in two weeks, and have been doing minimal training to just maintain baseline fitness without aggravating my injury. Last week The Distraction had a track workout to do as conditioning for part of his sport, so I jogged a mile to the track with him then ran around town for 8 miles while he did his track workout. Those of you who are FrayedLaces veterans will realize that running with The Distraction was a pretty big deal for me. I won't go into the details again, but over a year ago I swore I would never run with a guy I am dating ever again. Things just got complicated when I tried to mix running and relationships. The ugly man eating competitive monster emerges when I train, and that doesn't make for a harmonious relationship.

The Distraction knows this, and is very sensitive to the fact. I don't think he will ever do a complete workout with me, but it is fun to season my workouts with pinches of him. For example, on Thursday I needed to do a brick workout. I told him what time I would be back from the bike, and he joined me on a quick 5k run.

Yesterday we were stressing about juggling two graduation parties plus buying gifts. He could tell I was getting stressed, so he dropped me off at the beach so I could get a quick 1600m swim in while he navigated the mall. A sweet gesture, yes, but also a smart move on his behalf. He's quickly learning that if I don't get one solo workout session per day, I get a little street rat crazy.

Note: No, I am not anywhere near menopausal, but this video totally reminds me of how I act when I don't get my daily solo workout session.

  7. I don't like to mix relationships with running too but sometimes I do and although the ugly side comes out i seemed to have changed and now it just becomes comical. I try to not run with the boyfriend too often so that my scary side doesn't come out too much!!

  10. Yeah, I believe some of us were going into Frayed Laces Withdrawal Syndrome ( FLWS ) going the week without a post, but glad to see you're taking it easy and enjoying your time together with Mr. Distraction and recuperating for the half Ironman.

  12. Sounds like you 2 are a perfect fit. I also get grouchy if I do not get my physical activity fix everyday.

I miss Hawaii and can not wait to get on the island. Only 6 more months!

  14. I am unfamiliar with street rat crazy. I'm more inclined to the bat shit variety.

Glad to know you're still breathing. And competitive as ever. :)

  16. I'm glad you finally got some down time. I get all twitchy and crazy when I can't get my alone workout time. My husband will ask me what my problem is and then answer his own questions, "Oh, you need to run."

  17. Heehee... first I still crack up at your BF's nickname, second, I agree - workouts are my time. Although I do like to run / bike with others from time to time as well. Enjoy the downtime!

  18. I agree...I am one of the(seemingly few)people that definitely prefer running with music to running with conversation...I need my zone out time!

  19. I think I would dig having a Distraction to run with! Unfortunately, we had crappy weather on our Saturday long run, so the Shirtless Boys Running Club did not appear. Alas!

  22. Yikes! Don't let Street Rat Crazy Frayed Laces be out and about on the streets of Honolulu!!! It could be dangerous!!

  24. I think that commercial is funny and a lot like a tapering athlete.

We didn't get the windsock up, but it's good to know someone did.

  25. SCARY sh.t! That is all kinds of bad. The lady's face is as rock-solid as Tom Cruise's face while being attacked by martians or when he ishaving his eye-transplant in order to stay on the run for his colleagues.

Great to hear about the beach-time

  26. My marriage is solid, BECAUSE we barely run together. Funny how that works out.

  27. love that 'the distraction' is totally understanding about your workout needs! my relationship is similar, though i do wish he'd actually want to run with me once in awhile... (but i tend to tell him suck it up, let's go longer, etc) :)

  33. Too funny that you get cranky without your "alone" workout time. Good idea to just season with a little "Distraction" now and then. :)

  34. Hmm, I'm starting to think I might have to institute a similar policy regarding running with my man! I always thought it would be so great to get him into marathons, but now that he is, I really miss my solo runs!

  35. Street Rat Crazy! That's funny.

My wife tells me I get pissy if I haven't run in a day or 2 but I think she's full of it. ;^)
