I would NOT like to thank my shoes and piriformis for the pain they caused.
I would also NOT like to thank my rhabdomyolysis I developed which freaked the heck out of me and coach while I peed a delicious blood-tinged cocktail for 7 hours after the race. (I am fine now)
On a more serious note, reading all your comments made me cry. I had no idea so many of you were rooting for me, and I every time I beeped across the mats I thought about who may be paying attention. I promise a delicious race report to follow. For now I am hanging out with the coach, the running laminator, in NYC and we are the saddest bunch of limpy runners you can imagine.
I was SO glad to see you got through it. I hope you enjoyed it (obviously, as much as was possible) and smiled the whole way (again, as much as was possible).
ReplyDeleteYAY BOSTON!
Oh my! Sounds like an interesting post-race recap is on the way. I was thinking of you yesterday and hoping you were alright! Unfortunately I didn't know your bib number until later so I couldn't track you during the race but I did end up seeing your finish time! Congrats!!
ReplyDeleteLooking for a post-race recap (again)... enjoy your rest up!!

I was actually tracking four runners: You, Laminator, Hall & Kara.
ReplyDeleteI was waiting for your time even after my students went to lunch, and was hoping you were okay.
Then, what a beautiful time, and finish.
Rest up. Enjoy the limping. You earned every bit of it.
Might I also add that you have one hell of a sweet boyfriend, who is amazingly supportive in his posts.
Good for you, kid.
A Big Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteD.mn, that was a hard-core run.
Do rest and take care of your body. Let it all heal.
And, of course, enjoy the post-run goodness.

ReplyDeleteIt is nice to see that you finished I was a little worried. My friend was running also and came down with a fever and a very sore throat the day before. She finished but had to walk a lot of it. It is amazing at what people can do when they put thier mind to it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats.

ReplyDeleteTake time to recover.
Laura -- it was SOOOO great to meet you finally in person! I'm sorry to hear you were hurting so much, but it was indeed a tough race. But hey -- WE RAN BOSTON!!!
ReplyDeleteBased on your description of your 10-step run the night before the marathon, I couldn't imagine how you would ever run the marathon. I was surprised -- and yet not surprised -- when I saw the results. You absolutely amaze me! Congratulations. I'm anxiously awaiting the full race report.

Grats on getting it done! Was following you on the baa.org action! Lay on the details!
ReplyDeleteGood work! Sorry about the bloody "business" - something to tell the kids about someday. That was incredibly gutsy and you should be proud of yourself. There certainly are a lot of others out there who are, me included. Oh, that trip back to HI will be "fun." Again, great job!
ReplyDeleteenjoy nyc! i really can't wait to read your report. you did it!!!!!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations. Can't wait for the report.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! You've earned the right to limp with pride through NYC.
ReplyDeleteI was glued to my computer yesterday tracking your progress. As you passed each check point, my smile just got bigger and bigger! I just KNEW you were going to pull through! And what an amazing time, too! You are a fighter, girl!

ReplyDeleteWell, I'm sure that it wasn't your ideal race, but you did it. No one can take that away from you.
ReplyDeletePLUS, you'll have an answer to the ANNOYING question that everyone asks when they find out you are a marathoner.. "oh wow! Have you ran Boston yet!?" I still have to say that I am too slow ;)
Congrats on making to the finish.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing and great job. :) I was virtually following you along and I cheered for you everytime my computer refreshed.
ReplyDeleteWow!

ReplyDeleteGirl, I have had some crazy stuff going on lately so I'm super behind on reading blogs and am just now getting to this, but I want you to know I was thinking about you all day on Monday and wondering if you were feeling any better. I am proud of you! Way to channel your inner Dean Karnazes. I can't wait for your race report and all the pictures. I would have loved to have been at that expo and seen Ryan Hall! I have such a runner's crush...
ReplyDeletePain is only during the race - this victory is set and will keep with you forever. Congrats with finishing Boston Marathon !!
ReplyDeleteHey... if you ever have the time.. I am just across the Raritan Bay to the lovely New Jersey. Smile. Congratulations for completing the Boston Marathon. I look forward to your report. Enjoy Manhattan with the Lam.
ReplyDeleteHey Laces! Congratulations! It is all about the medal! You earned it! So did the weekend live up to the hype? I think so. How did Galloway work for you? Your fans eagerly await. Have a great time in Portugal.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you made it to the finish line. You were walking with obvious discomfort before the marathon. Hope you have a safe trip and let us know when you are back home!
ReplyDeleteYou should be proud of yourself. :) Rest up and take very good care of your ailments!!! Enjoy the remainder of your hang time with The Lam.
ReplyDeleteFL, I thought of you the other day. I was in the middle of set 3 of a nasty stadium workout, and my legs were just quivering with exhaustion. I thought that there was no way I was going to finish set 5...
ReplyDeleteThen I thought, "How can I quit now? Remember how FL ran 26.2 miles with her piraformis screaming at her with every step? I've got to keep going."
I did keep going. I finished the workout and even biked up the big hill to get home.
Thanks for being my motivation/inspiration.
