Great motto! Before reading this post, I had actually been pondering making a motto for this year that is applicable to both running and the PhD. I'll probably write about it soon.
I think I'm going to have to borrow that motto! Definitely good to keep the positive thoughts flowing, and any thoughts that include the word "awesomeness" should stick around!
I don't know why I don't use mantras more often. I've been saying "The legs feed the wolf" lately and it helps tons. If you've never heard it before, you'll have to google it.
My friends and I decided to make our own slogans/motto for the year for our new year resolutions! I have been bad and haven't thought of one yet! I like this a lot but still thinking what mine will be. Thanks for great posts from a new reader! :)
OMG! FL, you and Lam are SO my inspiration! I love the mantra....I have always said to myself on my hard days "Whatever it takes...." I know that in my heart I am willing to do whatever it takes to reach my goal. But then, like you did before Vegas...I get negative thoughts too...especially before "SOS" days AND with this training plan I am following for my BQ time. I get scared that Im not strong enough for it....but I can tell you this much...Im all about DDYA...and I plan to pass it on to my Running Buddy! Thank you SO much!!
Great idea for a future blog posting. Why do we tend to believe our negative thoughts but not our positive ones? You can answer 'it's human nature' but why? Is it simpler? Do we not want to come off as cocky and over-confident because we may not be able to back it up? And, shooting on locale to boot. I am waiting for Frayed Laces:The Movie. :-)
A few days ago I added this to my email tagline...just was getting sick of so many whiners out there. So I am keeping my tude positive and Thanks for a Good post ...I will Not DMA :-)

I like your video post!. And when i run the marathon or ultra!, i think, it is so short time in live that you run, the marathon is than not long but short ;-). Rinus. www.rinusrunning.punt.nl
I will not deny how awesome it is to be on Ohau right now. I will use this phrase on saturday when the going gets tough. I will say it probably mile 50 on.
have a few favorite mottos but for this year I'm going with "It Matters How You Finish". I don't think you will be able to come up with any excuse for quitting after watching this video: http://www.maniacworld.com/are-you-going-to-finish-strong.html. Finish Strong!
Wow! You have an awesome blog and I really enjoy it. DDYA is a great motivator. Besides a runner, I am also a wrestling coach here in Alaska. I am very interested in trying to motivate my athletes. Wrestling is very mental beside physical. You have think positive in your abilities. I tell them to stack as many positives in your corner before stepping out on the mat. Keep up the training and keep the good posts coming.
Thanks for sharing this with all of us! And don't think I'm not jealous of all that green behind you... it's 5 degrees here today. 5. I'd love to be somewhere warm and beachy right now.
love your new motto (and your 'old' one too!) i was trying to guess what ddya stood for until you got to it. the guessing wasn't going too well. 3.5 weeks in already! time is flying. you're gonna do great!
I like it! Mine appears more negative at first until you think about it and what the body can really accomplish once the brain is reined in: "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." Good luck with your training and your goals. Cheers!
You made me feel better about the mile I did yesterday and the one I am going to attempt today. Wish I were in a different place, but I'm not. I can still be awesome here, though. :D Thanks for the inspiration. I was thinking about the injury you came back from and also Lam's and many others. Maybe I CAN do this. Good luck with training, Frayed Laces.
