Here's what the end chopped off: I wanted to run the first loop slow, so I stuck with NPR podcasts. I usually run a lot slower when I listen to podcasts versus music. On the second lap I listened to music to help me kick up the pace. The run went very well--I felt strong the whole time and my foot never acted up (I laced my shoes differently: see link below). I had some pretty bad knee pain that lasted for a mile, but that was pretty much it. Running in the cold is way different than running in Hawaii. I never really sweated so I didn't get dehydrated, and I finished the run feeling like I could do another 11 mile loop. I also finished the last mile strong at about 15 seconds faster than marathon pace. After the run, I felt way different than I usually do. Typically, the heat of Hawaii makes me want to puke my guts out and not move for hours. Yesterday, I bounded in the house, grabbed some soymilk and gatorade, and did some yoga to help ease out the lactic acid. I spent the rest of the day grinding on chicken wings and potatoes while watcing SEC football (hey, I did just run 22 miles!) but I made sure to move around as much as possible. This morning I did some more yoga and feel amazing. I think I am definitely going to pack my yoga DVD to do after the Vegas Marathon. For those of you who haven't tried yoga, especially after a long run---try it!

Great video - great job on the 22 too!!! Hope your foot is feeling better, and glad you are enjoying some family time & leaves!! You are going to rock at Vegas!! And keep up with the yoga! BTW -I'm jealous of your long run setup in Hawaii!!!
ReplyDeleteP.S. you are hilarious with the water bottles. Hahahhaaa!! With notes on them!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear the 22 miler went well and there was no foot pain. You are ready for LV.
ReplyDeleteGreat job mapping your run and stashing the water bottles. I would have probably forgotten were I put them.
I love your stashing water in the bushes idea :) Good tips for small town running!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 22 miles!
Nice job! Leaves changing colours are cool, I agree. Now we have no leaves and in fact it is snowing here in Toronto as I write this comment, so Fall seems to be all done.
ReplyDeleteOn the video front, perhaps whatever program you are using has a maximum limit for data set somewhere, kind of like Powerpoint did when I tried to embed audio into the slides? Worth looking the the Tools, Options, Settings type places...
hey! i like the video. there were lots of good tips. i keep hearing about podcasts then i forget to put them on my shuffle, but i think that's a really good idea to keep entertained on a long run. i also like how you label the bottles.
ReplyDeleteand on a non-running note: cute hair!
Great second vid-cast. I very much liked to hear about the bottles too. Some time ago I read about hiding bananas along a route, but I had never thought of the water.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, running in strange places is Good. Preparation does take some more time, but it is more than worth it. I like plotting the garmin results on google maps.
Apples are the best... I love Pink Lady apples. Though they are from Australia, I cannot get enough of them.
Great job on the 22 miles! That does require a lot of forethought & planning.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your apples...
Nab a HoneyCrisp if you see them around home ;-). Those are phenominal!
ReplyDeleteGreat run report! You need a Spibelt for that celly of yours ;-). That's the only way mine doesn't flop all over the place. I know in small town you're probably fine but I remember a couple of times I heard about friends that blew thier foot out so bad they couldn't walk up to someone's house. Not that it would ever happen to you... but still a chia worries ;-)
Wow you are so lucky to have those water stops every two miles in Hawaii!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the 22 miler - so glad you didnt have any foot pain.
Great video and great run! I stash water in bushes, behind light poles, and against hydrants. No water fountains any place. You Hawaiians are lucky for a million reasons, but the run routes might rank up there.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels home.
Great video and i run whit a water belt!.
ReplyDeleteAnd colt is better than the heat?.
Look for this video that i make when i run the marathon in Holland 2 weeks a go!.

Thanks for the tips! I love the water idea! I actually just mentioned to a friend that I should start doing that, and then I see you video blog. Now, I am going to try it for sure!!
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling great and foot is problem-free!
McIntosh apples are my FAVORITE. They were impossible to find last year, but we're seeing them now and I'm eating them every day!!!
ReplyDelete22 miles?!?!?!, are you crazy?!?!, that is just impressive!!, you can eat whatever you want after that!!!
ReplyDeleteHow cold does it get in Hawaii??
Nice vide blog, thanks for the comments on my blog!!

lol.... all the leaves here are already on the ground, some covered by snow :( i think it's awesome that you appreciate leaves and apples though! :) great job on the 22 miles and great tips!
ReplyDeleteFL...LOVE the video blog....I'm ALWAYS looking for great advice. Unfortunately, I lug around the cell phone on really long runs...but sometimes I carry some change in my belt for pay phones.
ReplyDeleteSo glad your foot is better and good job on the 22 miler! You will kick butt in Vegas :->
Glad you were able to experience autumn!
Great video blog, and so glad to hear the long run went well!
ReplyDeleteI am ENVIOUS of your typical long run route at home. Perrrfect!
I enjoyed the video :-) Congrats on a great run! I'm glad your foot isn't bothering you any longer. I'm sure that is all behind you now!
ReplyDeleteI need to check out these podcasts. I have heard a lot of others talk about them but have not tried it. Congrats on getting in the 22 miler with no major issues.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? Water fountains every 2 miles and parks/restrooms every 4? Sounds like quite a nice situation to have!
ReplyDeleteSo cool that you embrace wherever you are for runs. Must be the chi from your Yoga. Yes, it's amazing after long or short runs.
ReplyDeleteYou've inspired me, once again.
Love how you held onto that apple the whole video cast. LOL
Thanks FL!
I totally used to stash gatorade in the bushes for my long runs.. ;)
ReplyDelete22 miles is awesome! I rode my bike 22 miles today and thought I was going to die.
Enjoy the cool weather!
I LOVE the bottles! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteYAY for video blogs! awesome job on the 22 miler!! love all your prep and the stashing of the water bottles. glad the foot held up too!! less than 3 weeks to go :) i am racing the same day i think - dec 7th right?
ReplyDeleteNice run and video but the question I want to know as a fellow SEC fan is what SEC teams were you watching and which one is your favorite?
ReplyDeleteGreat video. And yay for you and the apples and leaves and family time. Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteI take back any curses I have ever thought in your direction about all the sun and no snow...a good apple is a marvelous thing that I would be so sad to live without. I would rather run in the snow.
ReplyDeleteStashing the bottles is something I never would have thought about (and I'm glad I don't have to!). Great video. I miss some of the fruit of the mainland too, but fresh papaya makes it better. Safe travels home.
ReplyDeleteI typically don't even want to bend down and untie my shoes after a REAL long, long run.
