Excellent job! I like the concept of mixing different kinds of media.
Though marathons (and the need for in-run eating) will appear on my to-do list somewhere in a year-and-a-half to two years, I liked the post. Very informative.
Great fuel tips!! I think I'll have to try that power bar you recommended (can't do gels - ick!). Also (and I say this as a happily married woman) you have FABULOUS arms! Have a super long run, FL.
Thanks for the fueling info. The problem is I currently don't have access to fancy specialty stuff. Could you perhaps recommend more regular food items I can get at the grocery store that I can chow down on during an LSD? So far I've tried gummy bears and cereal bars. Both are fine, but I was wondering if there's anything better.
How fun! I like the video blog. Great information too about fueling. Have fun on your long run. You'll have to let us know how the Hammer Gel and Powerbar workout.
I like it. Nice job. I have to say that I'm partial to the GU gels myself. I sweat more then you. I don't know if I have ever really seen Hammer Gel to be honest with you.
I love it! Way faster for you too, huh? I will have to look for the smoothie bars...I have shyed away from bars because of the fiber thing. I will have my first experience with gels this weekend...I'm a little worried- I am not expecting to like it. I'll also keep my eye open for the Hammer Gels..
We don't want to see your face anymore! LOL JK! It's nice to put a voice with a face. For some reason I was thinking your voice would be higher HAHA I dig the vid bit. Very cool!
About the Power Bar Smoothy Bar thingy . . . is there a lot of sugar in it? Sounds good though :-)
Hahaha,... "see where it says comments down below?? leave em!" hehehe that was my favorite part. j/k. GREAT video!! i liked the change up + personalizing a post like that. plus the video is great to show things you're going to use visually in a new and different way than straight up pictures. really liked it! thanks!
Oh! I also wanted to say this is something I was interested in hearing about, too-- so the talk-topic was a great pick-- i'm sure a lot of people wonder/are playinig around with what to do for fueling long runs. and when i get there eventually i will have some ideas!!!! :)
Cool video! You're getting up to run right now... I'm just up bc, well, I don't sleep very well these days! Looking forward to the day though (soon, very soon!) when I can use this extra awake time more efficiently. Hope those powergels get you through your run! Personally, I'm a bigger fan of vanilla GU. ;)
i like the video! you've got a really clear speaking voice and you are are so pretty it's easy to watch. and i say that as a compliment from a happily married guy with 2 kids 4000 miles away. but since you're in hawaii, try your next one outside or in front of a window where us south carolina folks can see some island.
I'm a bit hesitant to reply, as I'm not sure if you want feedback/comments on this post or not.....
But, I like the video. Not going to lie, the "out of sync" audio video was a bit distracting and took away from it a bit, but if/when you get that fixed, I think it will be a great addition.
It was fun watching you. FL is video-tastic. I like the new vid feature. Hope you can work out the kinks with the delay. What is next, the Frayed Laces reality show on ESPN?
I will have to wait until I get home tonight to give my 'Siskel & Ebert' report on this video. My expectation is that the plot line will be easy to follow, the protagonist identifiable, the soundtrack enjoyable, the choreography outstanding, and the cinematography stunning. I will laugh. I will cry. But, at the end, I will understand and see the world from a different point of view. Is that too much to ask?
Ha ha ha! I loved it!! Yea, please do work out the video/audio issues. It is a great idea!
As someone who is training for Ironman, I can tell you that nutrition is a key factor in your success. Keep practicing it (including breakfast!). You need a certain number of calories per hour to avoid bonking, and the only way to figure that out is to work it work it work it :-)
Excellent. This really personalizes your blog. I still like reading your posts though. Great tips. I do something similar, but I may look at Hammer Gels. Last thing...it looked like you were actually talking in Spanish and it was dubed in English. Or maybe I was still thinking of your previous post and all the PR sailors
Very nice video, and good job on the delivery. I liked Carolina John's suggestion of having a more Hawaiian background. And hopefully you can figure out the audio/video synchronization problem.
Regarding breakfast or not, it doesn't matter so much for a training run, but on race day, I trust you'll eat something (like a banana and bagel or two) a few hours before the marathon. I recommend Lore of Running -- a technical and science-oriented reference book that helps explain why.
Nice video and don't stop. I have a video when i run a half marathon! http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=kTxMP2VI4fA And you have a nice weblog and you do it good!. Groet Rinus. http://rinusrunning.punt.nl/?home=1
great video, and well thought out nutrition plan. I never considered the no electrolytes early on. But then I don't normally consider my nutrition until it's too late! Keep 'em coming!
Great video FL keep 'em coming!! and good fueling tips too....if you ever get tired of gels try Shot Blocks. Those things are super yummy and easy to eat on the run....I hate sticky fingers and hands after messing with gels. Looking forward to hearing how the 18 miler went! Good luck!!
FraceLaces, it's nice to put a voice to your face! I can't believe all the stuff runners (of longer distances than me) have to deal with - gels, bars, drinks, lubes, fuel belts, etc.! So thank you for your video to explain what works for you, and in particular for the endorsement of that apple-cinnamon gel - I could seriously LIVE on apple pie, so if I ever get to distances that require "gelling" this will be the first thing I will try.
Hope to see more videos in the future, and your tan makes me jealous. Hope the video/audio sync issue gets resolved though, as I'm sure you do too. Cheers from chilly Canada!
Love the video blog. Keep it up. Nice to put a voice to the face and the posts. Now I will be able to hear the voice who is posting the blogs....one of those things I do...read in the voice of the writer.
Another vote for more video blogs! I like it a lot... might be something I want to do on my own blog, if I can figure out how. No webcam on my lappy.
I am so excited for my next marathon (even though I don't know when that will be)! I learned so much the first time, and I guess I'm looking forward to truly figuring things out like nutrition... Thanks for the tips. I hadn't thought about maybe not needing electrolytes early on.

Hi FL, wonderful video!! I want to see your face again and again!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat nutrition tips! I am not training for a marathon so my runs are a lot shorter so i don't eat a thing before at all except water!!
Still, great to know WHEN i start training next year!!!
M
Perhaps I can watch on my lunch break...they frown upon this sort of thing prior to that.
ReplyDeleteAlthough that hasn't stopped most of them from watching political youtube clips all day. I'm not bitter. Really.
Awesome.. I liked the video blog.
ReplyDeleteGood content, well presented.
Have a good run!

ReplyDeleteHmmm Hammer Espresso, yum!
ReplyDeleteNice job although the offset audio made it looked like it was dubbed!
Are you really speaking in double dutch!?!
Ha ha ha! I loved it!! Yea, please do work out the video/audio issues. It is a great idea!

Thanks for the entertaining blog posts!
Actually, I couldn't see your video before because I was at work, but now that I have...great job on your first videocast. Spoken like a true pro.
ReplyDeleteI liked the video. Keep them coming. It was my first Frayed Laces encounter.

Okay so I finally saw your video and it is AWESOME! I vote for more video blogs!
ReplyDeleteVery nice, sometimes reading blogs gets hard for me with the computer screen and stuff, so its nice to be able to listen instead of reading.
ReplyDeleteGreat video, great info. The out of sync audio/video is a little freaky though
ReplyDeleteLoved the video! very informative. That is weird how the voice and video was off, and it was very quiet, but I am just deaf to begin with! LOL.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I look forward to seeing more!

ReplyDeleteGreat tips and video! love the idea of the video! Nice job Fl!
ReplyDeleteFL! I have a 10K in the morning, and the last time I ran a 12K, I was woefully unprepared, nutrition wise.
ReplyDeleteI'm off now to my Fitness Store to pick up some of these things.
I LOVE the Video Blog. How very cool and hiptastic of you!!!!
How about a Video Blog on nutrition the day BEFORE the race. (~~putting down Snickers bars~~) LOL
Loved the tips! Thanks for sharing!

Very cool. You should do it more. I like the idea of the outdoor background. In Hawaii you could probably pick almost anywhere :)

ReplyDeleteI have always been a little afraid of using gels...but I think you convinced me to give them a go!
